Exams = booo!
The post begins with an apology. You may have known a definite lack of posts in the last little while. We have been in what is known as moratorium which is the time before exams where no clubs can meet so we have now been able to rehearse very much. We have begun to block the show and we have a big rehearsal tomorrow after everyone’s period 2 exams.
Some exciting stuff. Our website is now up and working! www.piratemusical.com All of the info about the show is up there as well as the ability to reserve tickets. Also some of our technical stuff is coming together including the scaffolding and the mics. We are pretty excited!

SWAB! The making of a Stomp number
Today we worked out the stomp number which was so much fun. We went to "the library" during drama class and ended up with 8 new mops and two metal buckets. After student council we all got together and began working some beats out and had tonnes of fun. We had a bit of an issue with the mobs because they expelled fluff whenever they were moved (and in a stomp number they get moved around quite a bit). The fluff was every where and by the end of our rehearsal the stage looked like it was covered in fake snow. What was worse though was that the fibres would get in our eyes and down our throats and it there was something in them that made your eyes burn. We plan to dip the brooms in some sort of chemical or hairspray them so the fluff doesn’t fly so much. It was so much fun to do though and after a bit more polishing it will be really cool.

New & Exciting Stuff
We are now the proud owners of piratemusical.com! Yea! Super big thanks to Jason who is helping us set it all up. It will be up and functional on Wednesday (maybe not entirely complete but it defiantly feels good to finally have it up there).
We also now know the date we are performing so bust out your calendar and write this down:
Saturday, February 16, 2008 is the public performance @ BDHS
Tuesday, February 19, 2008 is our sears show date @ Bear Creek
Please feel free to come out on both nights and support us!

Set
Jeff and Greg have been busy working on the set. The pictures below are a 3D version of the proposed set. The pieces on the side are optional (Greg really wants them) depending on the space constraints. The things at the back are supposed to be a mast and ropes but because the program is annoying it won't let us do it. The bannisters are going to be really cool as well and all pretty but again the program sucks. There is also going to be a really sweet wheel on the front piece where it sticks out. So without further ado...

Cool huh?

Final Read Through
So this has been a pretty big week here at the pirate musical. We had our first quasi-real rehearsal on Wednesday with the gentlemen and we worked on some of their songs and we read through their dialogue. Also Shelby and Greg began to work on the STOMP number and were doing some tap work so hopefully that number will be really exciting. Thursday was a big day for us we had all of our cast and crew together for the first time and we did a read/sing through. We were concerned about timing but we are about 15 minutes under time so that is good. Then we did some vocal work so all songs are now learnt and we added some super-sick harmonies. We went through some festival paperwork and everyone got a rehearsal schedule. Yikes! We have very little time left with exams coming up! A bit of behind the scenes stuff… We found out that festival has slated us in for the first Friday which kind of sucks. Mr. B is trying to change it for the following Tuesday so keep your fingers crossed. Jeff and Greg have pretty much agreed on a set and so we are beginning to run with that and we are working on getting our mics. Things are beginning to come together but time is very limited. Next week dance rehearsals started and then the dances should be done after the next two rehearsals. Also in exciting next week news, Janie will hopefully be coming back! We are looking to add a public performance the Saturday after the first sears day so we will see how that goes.

Production Meeting = Accomplishments
Today we had our first get together with all of the writers after a short hiatus over the Christmas break. We are getting really close to the week of sears so we have decided to “divide and conquer”. We also figure out all of our technical support staff issues and have “hired” all of the new people. We are slowly becoming a much larger group than we previously thought. We have figured out SM, Producers, Crew and Pit Band woes. Over the break Janie had her tonsils evacuated from her throat and so she can’t come to school. Instead we took our production meeting to her. Unfortunately Alli has also fallen ill so she was also unable to attend but I think she will be happy with the changes we made. We changed the words to goodbye and wrote the chant for the gentlemen. So now we are up to 10 original songs! We are posting the list of everyone who is officially involved and we will be meeting with them on Thursday for a “final read through/timing event” so we can figure out if we are over time or not. On Wednesday Greg and Shelby will begin choreography on the stomp number titled “Swap the Deck!”. Hopefully piratemusical.ca will officially be up and on the web by the end of the week so our wonderful Producers can begin promoting away!

First Read Through!
After auditions the writers got back together and tried to finish the script in time for the read through on Wednesday. Unfortunately on Wednesday there was a gas leak at the school and so the read through was bumped to Thursday. The read through went well although not all of the song and dialogue bits were 100% firmed up and a few new songs still needed to be added however it was a good opportunity for the new cast to understand the story. The Holiday Break is fast approaching and hopefully the writers will be able to get together to finish up the script over the break. Happy Holidays everyone and see you in the New Year!
Auditions!
Audition Notice
The audition notice went up and we are really excited for people to come on out and strut their stuff! Hopefully we will have a solid script by then but so far that looks a little bit iffy. We have pretty much solidified the characters we want to add to the show which is very exciting. It looks like we are going to be casting 4 males and 2 Females. The Audition Notice has gone up so all that is left to do is wait and see what happens at the auditions…and hopefully the full script will be done. We are bouncing around some ideas for some new songs as well (possibly even a stomp number but we will see how things go). Some other exciting news, we are going to have a pit band that will join us at the sears festival and thanks to Melanie Wright who is going to be organzing that.
And So It Begins
Well 'Grease' is over and we have begun work on rewriting the script to add some...plot to some great songs. We have been writing in some new characters in order to add more people than the original cast. It is pretty amazing that this whole thing just started as a class project which has come full circle and a whole year later it has become this amazing production that is going to be shown at the sears festival at the end of February. The entire original cast is back and Ms. McGoey has agreed to come onto the project as our staff advisor! We are amped and so excited to get started!
